Association for Computing Machinery Records 1947-2009

Records of this educational and scientific computing society founded in 1947 as the Eastern Association for Computing Machinery, documenting its administration, operations, projects and its Special Interest Groups (SIGs) which represent virtually every major area of computing. The bulk of the records date from the 1960s through the 1990s, although some older materials, dating back to 1947, are present. Records are from the major governing bodies of the ACM including president, executive committee, council and the membership, publications, SIG and education boards. There are also records of headquarters operations including executive director, offices of administration, policy and procedures, membership, publications and SIG services. The records throughout include mainly meeting minutes and agendas, correspondence, memos, reports, budgets, policies, news releases, membership and marketing samples and project and committee files. The ACM press books for the years 1984 to 1998 are included. A smaller amount of historical and reference materials include directories, annual reports, programs, photographs, copies of incorporation records and the ACM Information Center files, a subject classified set of reference files from the 1960s. The records also include a group of oral history audio recordings collected by ACM's History Committee.
